V&A print of the month

We are delighted that a depiction of the Five Holy Wounds has been chosen as "Print of the month" (March 2012) at the V&A.

The image is by August Welby Northmore Pugin (1812–1852) and can be seen in the Prints & Drawings Study Room, Tuesday–Saturday 10:00–17:00. Admission is free.

From the V&A website:

"Pugin, a leading proponent of the 19th-century gothic revival in architecture and design, believed that ‘all ornament should consist of enrichment of the essential construction of the building’. In his Glossary of Ecclesiastical Ornament and Costume he applied this principle to the accoutrements and rituals of Catholicism, to which he had converted in 1835."

The Sodality is hoping to organise a pilgrimage to Pugin's Ramsgate church in June: watch this space.
